Tyson Haynes

Saxophone, Beginning Piano, Jazz Improv

After receiving his Bachelor of Music in Jazz at the University of Oregon, Tyson earned his Master of Music Degree in Jazz at the University of Northern Colorado where he studied and performed with Dick Oatts, Andrew Dahlke, Erik Applegate, Jim White, and David Caffey.

Now Tyson is a Michigan-based saxophonist performing in the Detroit metro area. Playful yet introspective, his melodic style reflects his love of jazz and hip-hop, as well as improvised and instrumental elements from Black American Music. He splits his time between an experimental quintet project, performing dance music around the Midwest, and teaching students of all ages about music.

Hobbies/Interests

When not performing, Tyson enjoys cycling, running, woodworking and video games. Most of his free time is spent with his 4 year old pit bull named Olive.
