Judy Insley is an experienced, highly regarded musician/music educator offering lessons on acoustic guitar, mandolin, ukulele and banjo. A music educator for over 40 years, Judy has performed as a solo or ensemble player during that time and has also written and recorded her own music. The release of her 2007 CD, “Leaving Home” resulted in two 2008 Detroit Music Awards nominations for “Outstanding Acoustic/Folk Recording” and “Outstanding Acoustic/Folk Songwriter”. She also finished among the top 30 finalists in the 2008 Great Lakes Songwriting Contest. More recently, she has been in demand as a studio/side musician, adding mandolin tracks to local/regional artists’ recordings and concerts.
Judy specializes in teaching beginners with the goal of helping her students build a basic foundation and solid skill set that will propel them to the next level on their musical journey. She believes in mentoring each individual student while nurturing that student’s personal relationship with their chosen instrument. Judy teaches note reading, basic music theory, and chord structure which, in her view, leads to the development of more intelligent, informed and independent players.
