John Paxon

Mr Paxon holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Wayne State University with a minor in Jazz Studies.  He started his private teaching career in 1990.    In 1992 he worked at CCS at the Institute of Music and Dance and built a jazz education program there, along with a private studio, until the school disbanded in 2001.  Mr Paxon then opened a teaching studio in Troy and has mentored many students over the decades to elite positions in local ensembles.

Mr Paxon has been, foremost, a performing artist for his entire career which began in 1982.  He brings a lifetime of experience as a performer into every lesson.  He was a charter member of the Sun Messengers group that was the house band for the Detroit Pistons for 15 seasons, and a much loved ensemble around Detroit.  He currently is a jazz trombonist and singer who entertains audiences all across the metro area and beyond as a front man for numerous groups, most notable his own, the Paxton/Spangler Band which has 2 CD's under it's own name and the Planet D Nonet which has won 11 Detroit Music Awards.  He is a veteran recording artist and is on over 50 locally produced CD's and has performed with many national artists.
